Remembering POWs and MIAs
MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. — The Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 460, organized a 24-hour POW/MIA remembrance run at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, Sept. 24, 2026, honoring service members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
“For the next 24 hours, we have the opportunity to reflect, to visualize the faces of our prisoners of war, to recall the names of those still missing in action, and to remember that behind every one of those names is a story, a family and a sacrifice,” said Col. Justin Meihaus, 23d Mission Support Group commander. “Here at Moody, those stories are part of our own heritage.”
Participants ran around the clock, ensuring the remembrance continued throughout the day and night. The continuous run served as a tribute to the service members who never returned home and their families, while reinforcing the nation’s commitment to accounting for those who remain missing.
“It’s something we can do to remember those that never got to come home and are still missing in action,” said Staff Sgt. Journey Yanzick, Moody AFB Airman Leadership School instructor. “It’s important that every year we take the time, while we are able, to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
The event brought members of the Moody community together to reflect on the stories of POWs and MIAs and honor their legacy.
“I think the biggest message is just to let them know we will never fully understand what it is you’ve gone through,” said Staff Sgt. Samantha Elia, 23d Wing Contracting Squadron non-commission officer in charge service flight. “We do remember you every single day and we honor you during this ceremony. We will never forget.”
As participants continued running through each hour, the event served as a reminder that the commitment to remember America’s captured and missing service members continues long after the ceremony ends.
